FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most.

How does myping measure internet speed?+

myping measures the amount of data that can be transferred between your device and the test server within a fixed window. Multiple parallel connections are used to fully saturate your link, giving you the maximum capacity available.

Why is my speed test result lower than my plan?+

Speeds vary throughout the day based on network congestion, the device you're using, your Wi-Fi signal, and the test server location. We recommend testing at multiple times and using a wired Ethernet connection for the most accurate baseline.

What is a good internet speed?+

It depends on what you do. For streaming HD video, 25 Mbps is plenty. For 4K streaming or video calls in a busy household, 100+ Mbps is recommended. Heavy gamers and remote workers often benefit from 300+ Mbps and a low-latency connection.

Does myping work over a VPN?+

Yes. Run the test as usual — the result reflects the speed of your VPN connection, which is typically slower than your raw connection due to encryption overhead and the added distance to the VPN endpoint.

How can I improve my Wi-Fi speed?+

Place your router in a central, open location, away from interference. Use the 5 GHz band for nearby devices. Reboot the router occasionally. For larger homes, mesh systems usually outperform a single router.

What's the difference between Mbps and MBps?+

Mbps (megabits per second) is the unit for internet bandwidth. MBps (megabytes per second) is the unit used for file transfers. 1 byte equals 8 bits, so 100 Mbps ≈ 12.5 MBps in real-world download speeds.
